For the last five years, I have been using WordPress to setup and manage various websites. Some of them were simple and pretty straight forward to create and use, and some of them were relatively hard to create due to various reasons such as their complexity, amount of subpages, SEO and multiple other reasons.
However, we are talking about WordPress here, which is here for us to make our job of creating and managing websites much easier than custom coding everything yourself. WordPress on its own is a very powerful service which has many uses as you may already know. You can host any type of a website using WordPress, whether it’s a landing page website, a blog or perhaps an online shop, or anything else for this matter. The point being is that WordPress allows you to create pretty much any type of a website you want, however, it’s not as straightforward as it may sound. You still need some knowledge of how websites work and the general process of setting one up.
This is where themes jump in and make the process even easier. WordPress on its own is somewhat straight-forward and easy to use, but it may get confusing at times and with premium themes, you, in most cases get additional guides, tutorials, and support for any type of issues you run into. One of those themes is Divi which is stunningly beautiful and easy to use, but it’s not just the theme.
The iconic live page builder is the unique selling point here as it comes with this theme. Just recently, it has got a complete revamp under the name Divi 3.0 and everything was ‘recreated’, making it better than it ever was. It is easier to use, it is literally drag-and-drop and in short, you don’t need any special and advanced knowledge to create a website if you have Divi 3.0.
In simple terms, The Divi Builder, in this case, Divi 3.0 is one of the most powerful plugins for WordPress to date. It is a fully interactive plugin which lets you visually create any type of a website you want. Visually? Well, what does that mean?
You can litterely create a whole website with the drag-and-drop feature. It is that simple and easy to use. A fully functioning website with little effort? You have to admit, that’s pretty impressive, but that’s not it though. There are a plethora of other features and functions this plugin on its own has.
It contains over 40 content elements on its own which you can freely customize in any way you want. Imagine you want to place a textbox in middle of the website. You pick up the element from the list of content elements, you drop it with your mouse in the middle of the live updating website and that’s it. Now you just have to type in the text the textbox will contain and stylize it with colors, fonts, and other attributes. That’s what Divi 3.0 allows you to do.
It is amazing to think that just over ten years ago, you had to create most of the websites by hand by custom writing the code and do every single detail on your own and now we’re here with WordPress and Divi 3.0 which is constantly being updated with more features and patches.
No matter who you are, Divi 3.0 will allow you to create the perfect website you want. You want a landing page website acting as your portfolio? No problem, you can create it within a day. You’re a large company and you require a new, stylish looking website for your brand? Easily done with Divi in a short timeframe of a few days. That’s how good Divi 3.0 is and the fact that they keep updating it on regular basis means it will just get even better.
Now, moving onto the technicalities, Divi 3.0, as a visual page builder allows you to do literally anything you want.
Unique features of Divi 3.0 I would like to point out:
- Drag and drop visual elements within seconds
- 40+ content elements
- Live changes in front of you
- 20+ pre-made layouts
- Responsive design
- Insanely high speed when editing and creating
The bullet points above just slightly cover what Divi 3.0 has to offer. To experience it all in its fully glory, you would just have to use it and the best thing is that they offer free trial to everyone who is interested so you can check it out and what it offers for free and if you like it, you can pick which package you want to purchase as they offer a few different ones.
Usually, when you’re creating a website in WordPress you have to manually edit some parts of the website for mobile devices which is an additional hassle, however every website you create with the live builder from Divi 3.0 is 100% mobile-friendly. You might have to make minor edits somewhere from time to time, but that’s it. It does almost all of the work for you so you don’t have to bother yourself with the little things.
One of the key features of Divi is the fact that they have added an ability to instantly see the changes on your websites as you edit and add elements. You see the website as someone else would see it in real time, with all the changes and edits which are a new step in the user-friendly creation of websites, but that’s not the only useful thing it has. The user interface is absolutely beautiful. Whether it is the user dialog you get when placing a text box or the settings menu for the plugin, the whole plugin and its interface were built around the idea of simplicity and I have to admit they surely have succeeded in that.
All of the menus and dialogues you get to see are colored in stylish and eye-pleasing colors with simple and intuitive controls and if don’t want to have the plugin in the English language, you can pick from any other 32 languages you want.
When adding new elements to your website, all you have to do is click the ‘+’ button and you get to pick from the 40+ content elements it provides. Then, the rest is pretty self-explanatory, select the element you want and move it where it’s needed and stylize it. That’s it, easy, right?
Alongside that, you have great control over elements, such as copying, pasting, duplicating and deleting which are very easy and fast to use. Whether you need to copy pictures, text blocks or literally a whole page, you can easily do that with the said controls as it’s all very fast and easy.
The cool thing that caught my eye the most and I’ll be honest here, I liked it the most, is the fact that when you add a new content element, you can stylize it in any way you want and so on, but the best thing is that you don’t have to manually type in the values from width and height of elements. You can literally set them with your mouse by dragging the element box which is amazing. Not only does it make everything faster and cooler, but it’s actually easier to make changes on the go instead of opening dialog boxes for every element and changing the values manually.
Honestly, sometimes you can have a bit too much fun with the live editor and you might mess something up, or perhaps create something you don’t like, but fear not! Remember the ‘easy control over elements’ part? Yep, that’s not over. Divi 3.0 provides you simple and easy to use revisions you can go back to if you messed something up in the latest one. But you don’t have to do that if you want only a few things undone. The undo option comes into action alongside the redo action which comes in handy more often than you would think. All of that in a simple and intuitive menu which is available in every section of the website you’re editing.
I have yet to see a more beautiful interface in a plugin though. I mean, seriously, Divi 3.0 has the most beautiful interface ever. You will absolutely love it, no matter what type of design and aesthetics you like and prefer. But how is this possible? Simple.. it doesn’t get in the way. It is literally invisible until you need it, which is one of the most amazing things about this plugin. We’ve all had our share of trouble and annoyance when creating and editing websites and you just can’t get to your element from all the clutter on the screen. All the menus, dialogs and taskbars, it just gives you a headache and makes you stop working.
Well, that’s not the case with Divi 3.0. Like I said, the interface literally disappears and it’s not there until you need it. There are no magical floating sidebars or headers. It is completely free of clutter and unnecessary objects, it makes creating and editing websites enjoyable.
Alongside the nice interface and support for all mobile devices, you can add custom fonts and styles, which is absolutely amazing, I mean, is there something this plugin cannot do?
And no, you don’t have to type HTML tags to make the text cursive. You simply mark the text, press a button and type away! Your text is in cursive now. Sure, that’s an option in literally every modern text editor now, but when you see that feature in a live website builder, you will love it even more.
The builder itself revolves around three basic building elements and those are sections, rows, and modules. If you used any other drag-and-drop builders before, you would probably know all three of these by now as they tend to act the same across every other builder.
Sections will be the largest building blocks of your website and inside of them you can add everything, simply said. Considering that, then you can add rows inside those same sections and you can have as many as you like and you can add equal text boxes, images, or whatever you want in such rows, and then you can add modules inside the rows which are more specific and detailed for holding images and text boxes, but it all depends on how you want the website to look and act. You have full control over it, so you aren’t restricted in what you want to build as long as you have the idea.
That covers most of the things Divi 3.0 has, but in reality, you just have to try it out on your own to see what it truly offers and the easy and straight-forward installation just makes things even easier for you, so there’s that.
However, with everything, there will be some negative things and drawbacks and there aren’t many negative things about Divi 3.0, but the ones that exist may cause you some trouble.
Another notable thing is, as much as customizable this plugin allows you to be, if you are a really good developer and you want to be able to customize literally every part of the website from both frontend and backend, you might run into some trouble. You will be able to edit and change almost everything, however, some things you just won’t be able to, so if you really want to create everything by hand and on your own, you might have to consider some other plugin.
Right, all of this is great, but how much is it going to cost me? Well, if you remember correctly, I said they have a few options to choose from. There’s actually only two at the time this was written. All prices are per annual basis, so you pay it once per year.
The first package costs $89 and it will offer you one year of full support and one year of updates. After that year passes, you still will be able to build and edit your websites, but you won’t have the customer support or to theme updates.
The second package is priced at $249 and it literally gives you all of the features for life. Lifetime customer support and theme updates, nothing to worry about. If you plan on having your website for a really long time, this option is the best, all things considered.
All in all, it is one of the best plugins I have seen and used so far, and really, it will let you create any type of a website. The simplicity of it alongside the intuitive design and interaction is what truly makes this plugin shine. It brings what it promises and it certainly won’t disappoint you, that’s for certain, and the good thing is, is that it is still being updated and will continue to be, meaning there will be more features and abilities.
