8 Reasons why you Should NOT Start your own Business

8 Reasons why you Should NOT Start your own Business

There are hundreds of good reasons to start your own business. Whatever your plan is, is it online business, brick, and mortar, a service based business, product based business, anything you can think about.

It’s never been a better time to start your own business. So they say. When you think about it, that is actually right.

Success stories and flamboyant entrepreneurs preach it all the time. We are daily influenced by stories of Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and many more. All of them made successful multi million businesses.

The Millennials are known for their entrepreneurial spirit. But is starting a business and entrepreneurship for everyone? Well, you may not be that kind of person.

Not everyone is made to be a successful entrepreneur or business person. Let’s talk about some truths that are hard to be admitted and no one dares to say.

Here are the reasons you should not start your business

8 Reasons why you Should NOT Start your own Business Pin

1. You love conformity and your comfort zone

If you are the type of person that enjoys your little town, your little apartment, your small circle of friends. You don’t like to network, getting to know more people and make new friends and business connections sound like torture to you, well, starting a business isn’t something for you.

Because, starting a business means leaving your comfort zone, leaving your conformity and accepting new situations and uncertainty. Having a business means finding solutions to problems and working hard, hustle hard and giving a lot of your free time to your new business.

Your Business is like a little child. It needs your time, it needs a lot of attention and it needs a lot of love to grow. So if you don’t like getting outside of your comfort zone don’t start a business.

2. You hate challenge

If you are somebody who hates the challenge, loves being inside of your comfort zone don’t really like to try new things don’t start a business. Starting a business means having daily challenges.

Not only monthly, not yearly but daily challenges.

You struggle with technology, you struggle with strategy, you struggle with business plans, marketing strategy, marketing tactics, financials, accounting.

You have to do a lot of legal stuff, so starting a business is all about the challenge. If you don’t like the challenge and you don’t like to be challenged don’t start a business.

3. Status quo is your best friend

Just like your comfort zone, you like things as they are. You like to be an average person. You like not having big goals, and try to kill every attempt of your mind to generate new ideas.

You don’t want to change the world and don’t want to change anything about yourself or your surrounding. Running a business means disrupting and challenging the status quo, building new things, generating new ideas, learning a lot, struggle, work, hustle, grind that’s whats business about.

4. You hate learning

You know, when I started my own business I actually then realized that I had to start learning. Because of all of the things that they teach us in schools, colleges, workshops, seminars don’t really apply too much in the real world. Your business, every business is unique. That’s why I don’t trust those gurus that say do this and you are a millionaire next month.

Follow these exact steps, do these and those things… sometimes that just does not work like that.

You have to learn, you need to relearn. Things that you know yesterday might just be obsolete today. So if you hate learning new things, trying new tactics, new methodologies, then don’t start a business.

5. You don’t need money

If you are somebody that’s humble enough to live and work to pay your bills and don’t have greater desires. You don’t want to be able to afford something better don’t start a business. Money moves the world, money enables us to buy certain things, to buy a bigger house to travel the world to have a better car, to buy new gadgets.

You might not be that person that likes gadgets and you don’t actually like cars, you love to live in a small apartment in a forgotten alley.  Or maybe you just won the lottery, you are the heir of a wealthy family member?

Anyway, if you don’t need money, that’s not the ideal mindset for you to start a business. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean that you will earn millions when you start a business.

Starting a business just for the money isn’t good either. But business is about money and a lot of people are starting their businesses to earn more money. If you are not like that don’t start a business.

6. You enjoy working for others

You are not the person that likes to work and do things on your own terms. You like to be told what to do, be bossed around and love working on building someone other dreams. You are comfortable with that, you don’t mind to be bossed by people who God knows why became managers, became CEOs. That’s what you do that is your destiny you accepted that.

Well, what should you do about it? Nothing, just keep on working for other people. You will never have a problem planning what to do, making a strategy for next five years or having problems with hiring new people. So if you enjoy working for others don’t start a business.

7. You actually love your boring job

Well, your boring nine to five is paying your bills. You kinda hate it but you love it because it’s yours, it’s paying your bills right? Right! But you are kinda scared to start something new. That’s why you are accepting your destiny and keep coming to your boring, not fulfilling nine to five job every day.

It’s not the best job, your boss probably sucks, the company is not building something meaningful, your job is not meaningful, but hey what the heck! Who has the time to learn new things? What should you do? Start your own business? Hell no!

8. You are not proactive

If you are that kind of person that does not actively search for opportunities, does not look for new challenges, you don’t like to be a leader, don’t know how to motivate others, don’t know how to manage people or just don’t like these things, don’t start a business.

In business, you have to be proactive. You have to be the leader, you have to be the one that says others what to do, how to do it and to know what you want to achieve. If you are not proactive and if you are only reacting when somebody other tells you what to do or something happens, well don’t start a business.

    Excellent article.

  2. Great post Salim. Forget about it if you cannot deal with #1. I learned fast that all growth, fun and expansion happened well outside of my comfort zone. Big time wake up call early in my blogging career. Thank goodness I got that lesson down cold…..eventually 😉
